About Phronesis AI Services
Phronesis AI Services is an independent software lab in India. We build and operate our own AI-powered products, including Social Digital Marketer, a SaaS platform that runs a brand's social media with a person approving every post, and Sahakar Mitra, a source-cited bilingual assistant for cooperative housing societies. Alongside our products, our studio builds AI systems, SaaS applications and automation solutions for clients. One senior team runs everything end to end, so the practices we recommend are the ones we depend on ourselves.
About the role
You will join the engineering team as a Full Stack Agent Developer Intern and work on real products that real users depend on, including our AI agents and the AI-SDLC framework we use to build software. From the first weeks you will ship small, well-defined pieces of frontend and backend work under the guidance of a senior engineer, and the scope will grow as you demonstrate that you can handle it.
The internship is designed as a path to full-time employment. Interns who meet our expectations on technical skill, learning ability and ownership may be offered a full-time position at the end of the internship, subject to business requirements at that time. A full-time offer is not guaranteed. It is made only to candidates who successfully meet the Company's expectations through the evaluation process described below.
What you will do
- Build user-facing features in React.js and Next.js, from component to finished screen, with attention to usability and responsiveness.
- Develop and maintain backend APIs in Node.js, including request validation, error handling and authentication.
- Design and integrate database models and queries, and write migrations when the data model changes.
- Debug issues across the stack, reproduce them reliably, and fix the root cause rather than the symptom.
- Write unit and integration tests for the code you ship, and take part in code reviews.
- Work with the team through planning, demos and retrospectives, and keep your tasks updated and visible.
- Contribute to real product development on our own products, Social Digital Marketer and Sahakar Mitra, and on client projects: features that go to production and are used by customers.
- Work on and help build AI-SDLC, our AI-driven software development lifecycle framework, alongside the senior team.
Essential skills
- Strong programming fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and clean, readable code.
- JavaScript (ES6 and later) and a working knowledge of TypeScript basics.
- React.js, including hooks, component design and state management.
- Familiarity with Next.js (routing, server and client components, API routes).
- Node.js and building REST APIs.
- Databases: SQL fundamentals and experience with at least one relational or document database.
- Cloud fundamentals: deploying and running an application on a cloud platform (AWS, GCP, Azure, Cloudflare or Vercel).
- Java: core language, object-oriented design and a basic framework such as Spring Boot.
- Agentic AI basics: how LLM agents plan, call tools and are kept under human supervision.
- RAG systems basics: embeddings, vector search and grounding model answers in retrieved sources.
- Git and a basic branching and pull-request workflow.
- Clear written and spoken English, and the habit of asking questions early.
Nice to have
- Hands-on projects with LLM APIs, agent frameworks or vector databases, and any work on evaluating model output.
- PostgreSQL in particular, including indexing and query performance basics.
- Cloud infrastructure beyond deployment: containers, serverless functions, queues or managed databases.
- Personal or open-source projects with a public repository we can read.
- Familiarity with testing tools (Vitest, Jest, Playwright) and CI pipelines.
Eligibility
- Recent graduate, or final-year student able to work on-site full time for the internship period, in Computer Science, Information Technology, B.E., B.Tech., BCA, MCA or a related field.
- 0 to 1 year of professional experience. Academic projects, internships and personal projects count.
- Able to commit to the full 3 to 6 month internship on-site at our Pune office (Bhosari).
How the internship is evaluated
Evaluation is transparent and continuous, so you always know where you stand.
- Onboarding (first two weeks). You set up the development environment, ship a first small change, and agree your learning goals with your mentor.
- Monthly performance reviews. At the end of each month your mentor reviews your work with you against clear criteria: code quality, problem-solving, learning speed, ownership, teamwork and task completion. You receive written feedback and specific goals for the next month.
- Final assessment. In the last two weeks of the internship you present the work you have shipped, and the team completes a final assessment covering the same criteria across the whole internship.
Full-time conversion criteria
A full-time offer is considered when the final assessment shows that you consistently meet the following expectations, and when the Company has a business requirement for the role at that time.
- Coding quality. Readable, tested, maintainable code that passes review without repeated rework.
- Problem-solving. You break problems down, investigate before asking, and propose options rather than waiting for instructions.
- Learning speed. You pick up new tools and parts of the codebase quickly, and you do not repeat the same mistakes.
- Ownership. You see tasks through to production, follow up on bugs, and communicate blockers early.
- Teamwork. You give and take feedback well, help others, and keep the team informed.
- Task completion. You deliver what you commit to, on time, at the agreed scope.
Meeting these criteria makes you eligible for consideration. It does not by itself create an entitlement to a full-time offer, and the Company's decision will be communicated in writing before the internship ends.
What you will gain
- Hands-on experience shipping production code in our AI-powered products, Social Digital Marketer and Sahakar Mitra, and in client projects.
- A dedicated mentor, regular code reviews and structured monthly feedback.
- The opportunity to work on and build AI-SDLC, our AI-driven software development lifecycle framework.
- Exposure to the full lifecycle: planning, building, testing, deploying and operating software.
- Experience with modern tooling: TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, Java, PostgreSQL, cloud platforms, agentic AI and RAG systems.
- Food provided on working days.
- An internship certificate on completion, and a path to a full-time role for interns who meet our expectations.
Selection process
- Application review: resume and GitHub profile.
- Short online coding exercise, or a walkthrough of a project you have built.
- Technical interview covering fundamentals, JavaScript, React and APIs.
- Conversation with the founding team about how you work and what you want to learn.
- Offer, with the internship terms in writing.
We aim to complete the process within two to three weeks of receiving your application, and we reply to every applicant.
